Scope and Content Note

Typewritten transcripts (xerox copy) of interviews conducted by staff members of the Commission, with 105 persons who worked, from time to time in the period 1911-1947, in the First State Capitol (Old State House, War Memorial Building), and who recall something of the history of the building and, especially, of the several state and federal governmental agencies or patriotic, civic, and other organizations housed there over the period.

Scope and Contents Activities to which the material specifically relates include: Donaghey's role in the construction of the Arkansas state capitol; his work as governor and as member of the state Capitol Arts Commission, Centennial Commission, Board of Charities and Corrections, and Planning Board; his work as member of the (Little Rock) Broadway-Main Street Bridge Commission and of the National Board of Finance of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South; creation of the Donaghey Foundation and endowment of...

Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of materials primarily pertaining to the University of Arkansas and to Little Rock. These include a scrapbook compiled by University of Arkansas student Amy Wright; SPA News Bureau and Arkansas Resources & Development Publicity Division photographs of Little Rock, and card-mounted photographs of the 1912 Labor Day Marathon in Little Rock.

Scope and Content Note This collection contains a xeroxed copy of typescript (some leaves with autograph revisions overwritten) of Arkansas state capitol architect Mann's unpublished comments, Sept. 30, 1937, on George Washington Donaghey's book, Building a State Capitol (Little Rock, 1937).
