The collection contains a typescript of Arkansas physician John Walter Meek’s memoirs, “Life History of J. W. Meek,” written primarily in 1913, with an update made in 1917. The typescript was created by Meek’s granddaughter, Anne Meek Garrett, in 2008. Meek discusses his family; his childhood in Union County, Arkansas; the Civil War; the cotton industry; his membership in the Ku Klux Klan; his medical studies and career; Reconstruction; and Arkansas politics, among other topics.
