Biographical Note
The Southern Memorial Association of Washington County was organized in 1872 for the purpose of creating a Confederate veterans cemetery.

Acquisition Information
Record books of the Southern Memorial Association were filmed for preservation purposes by the Special Collections Division in May 1990. Volumes 2 and 3 were accessioned in the 1960s. Volume 1 was donated to Special Collections by Jewell Benbrook Hamblen Giles, Treasurer of the association, February 14, 1990. The records are on one reel of microfilm, housed in Special Collections.
