The collection contains the personal and professional papers of Ray L. Brogley, Sr., primarily related to his involvement with the Veterans of World War I in the U.S.A. and and to his work as an engineer with the United States Army Corps of Engineers, Little Rock District.

Materials include correspondence, convention materials, meeting minutes, photographs, newspaper clippings, publications, and employment records.

Biographical / Historical

Ray L. Brogley, Sr. (1895-1993) was a World War I veteran and civil engineer.

Raymond Leroy Brogley was born February 6, 1895, to Louis H. and Minnie I. Brogley in Freeport, Illinois. He graduated from high school in Amboy, Illinois, and attended the Tri-State College in Angola, Indiana from 1931-1932. He served in Company D, 332nd Machine Gun Battalion of the 86th Infantry Division during World War I. On October 13, 1934, he married Thelma Parrish in Monroe County, Arkansas; following Thelma Brogley’s death in 1969, he later remarried, to Margaret A. Reaves. For several decades, he worked as a civil engineer with the United States Army Corps of Engineers, including a number of years with the Little Rock District. He was an active member of the Veterans of World War I of the U.S.A., including serving as a Commander in Arkansas and serving on the 1977 Convention Committee. He passed away March 28, 1993, and is buried in Fort Smith’s Rose Lawn Park Cemetery.
