The collection consists of correspondence, photographs, scrapbook pages, and other materials related to Alpha (Alphie) Williams and the Williams family of St. Paul, Arkansas. Included are materials related to the World War II service of her brothers, Earl and Mack Williams.

Biographical / Historical
Alpha Madge (Alphie) Williams (1907-1993) was an Arkansas social worker.
Williams was born to Bethena Geraldine Keck and John Williams on April 15, 1907. She graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1937, and then attended graduate school at the University of Chicago before working as a social worker in Indiana, Missouri, and Arkansas. She eventually moved back to St. Paul, Arkansas, and settled in the home built by her brothers, Earl and Mack. Williams passed away on June 7, 1993, of cancer. She willed her family's property to the Ozark Highlands Trail Association, which maintained it until 2016 as the Williams Woods Nature Preserve.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
The Alpha Williams Papers were donated to Special Collections by Mary E. McCutchan of Grand Junction, Colorado, on February 24, 2023. McCutchan, a friend of Williams', acquired the materials while helping Williams pack up her homestead in St. Paul.
