Biographical / Historical

Wiley Durham Deen (1841-1922) was a Washington County, Arkansas farmer and politician.

Deen was born January 10, 1841, to William J. and Barsheba Durham Deen in Hamilton County, Illinois; his siblings included Jacob Deen, James Deen, and Francis Deen Johnson. He married Margaret Jane Brown in 1862; following her death, he married Mary Elizabeth Parker in 1888. Deen moved to Arkansas around 1864, and served in a Missouri cavalry regiment of the Confederate Army during the U.S. Civil War. He was later elected as a Washington County Justice of the Peace and constable, as well as served as postmaster of the Cross Roads post office in Washington County from 1875-1876. Deen passed away March 26, 1922, in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
