The collection consists of photographs, correspondence, a diary, genealogy research, and other materials related to the Cazort family of Johnson County, Arkansas, and particularly to Pauline Cazort Berry. Included are materials related to the Cazort Brothers general stores, to the town of Lamar, and to Ozone Mountain and Petit Jean Mountain, where the family vacationed.

Biographical / Historical

Sidney Bumpas Cazort and Martha Harrell Cazort and their family moved from North Carolina to Arkansas in 1849-1850, and settled in Johnson County, where they established Piney Farm. Three of their sons, William Alexander (W. A.), G. T. and J. R. Cazort, established the Cazort Brothers general stores, with a flagship store in Cabin Creek (later Lamar), Arkansas. Pauline Cazort Berry (1891-1985), the collection donor's grandmother, was the daughter of William Alexander Cazort and May Garner Cazort.
