Biographical / Historical

Hiram A. Whittington (1832-1917) was a Montgomery County, Arkansas farmer. He was born February 17, 1832 to Granville and Cordelia Whittington. On November 4, 1860, he married Martha Ann Garrett. During the Civil War, he served as a first lieutenant in the 33rd Arkansas Infantry of the Confederate Army.

Whittington passed away January 19, 1917.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The Hiram A. Whittington Journals were donated to Special Collections by Whittington's great-great-grandddaughter, Betty Miller of Cameron Park, California, on April 12, 2009 in honor of her mother, Mary Hazel Wingfield Spears.
