Faculty, Staff, Students, Parents, Alumni, 1897-1925

 Sub-Series
Identifier: MC 577 10 1

Scope and Contents

From the Series:

This series contains over 300 black and white prints, plus some 150 duplicate prints of Southland faculty, staff, students, and alumni; and views of the campus, buildings, and surrounding area. Also included are some 175 negatives, fifty glass lantern slides (seventeen of them hand-colored), a scrapbook, and a cloth banner displaying additional prints.

Unless otherwise noted, both prints and negatives are originals, taken predominately in the 1910s and 1920s. Most of the negatives are 4 x 5 or 3 1/4 x 5 1/2, and have been given the same number (with the suffix "N") as their corresponding print. Contact prints were made, during processing, of negatives originally without corresponding prints.

All measurements are in inches, height x width. People are identified (unless otherwise noted) from left to right.

"(D)" indicates that a photograph has one or more duplicates (see Subseries 15). Duplicates have the same number as original print, but with suffix "D." In many cases, these duplicates are not additional prints from the same negative, but rather almost identical pictures taken at the same time as the one designated the original. After the "D," the number of duplicates is noted, as well as measurements or type of picture, if different from the designated original.

"(N)" indicates that a photograph has a negative (see Subseries 16). Negatives have the same number as original print, but with suffix "N."

"(Lantern slide --)" indicates that the same image was used in the glass lantern slide number --.

"(Banner)" indicates that the same image was used in a print mounted on the cloth display banner.

"(Postal card)" indicates that the image was printed to be used as a post card. Halftone printed postal cards are identified as such.

"(Halftone proof)" indicates a printed halftone proof of a picture used in a Southland publication.

"(Processing print)" indicates a print made during processing. In most cases, contacts were made of negatives originally without a corresponding print. In some cases, copy prints were made for exhibit; many of these were toned brown.
