Scope and Content Note Diary belonging to Alida Clawson Clark, a founder of Arkansas' Southland College. The diary includes several diary entries dating between April and May 1873; lists of correspondents in 1873 and 1874; and budget notes, including on school fees, donations, and aid to students, dating from 1873-1876. One budget entry is signed by Alida Clark, and a diary entry mentions "our dear son-in-law, T. F. Wright," so the diary has been attributed to Clark, but some entries may also have been written by...

The collection consists of two copies of a typescript of an autobiographical essay by Mildred E. White, "My Year at Southland Institute" (3 pages). The essay discusses White's experience as a volunteer teaching at Phillips County, Arkansas' Southland Institute, a Friends-run college for African-Americans, from 1918-1919.
