Scope and Contents

The items in Box 73 represent 13 reels of film transferred to video cassettes. These recordings include footage of the inspection team sent by the National Park Service in October 1961 to determine if the Buffalo River qualified for federal status. They also include footage of the Ozark Wilderness Waterways Club float in 1962 in which Justice Douglas was their guest. Reel 8 features footage of the Sam Walton family. The Reels also feature Ozark Society activities. The reels on Video 2 are not presented in chronological order; Reels 9-11 precede Reel 7; Reel 6 is the last segment of the video. Also, Reel 8 appears as the last segment of Video 1.

Conditions Governing Access

Film reels in boxes 74a and 74b are restricted for preservation reasons; DVD access copies are available in Box 73, and Reel 11 is available online.

Processing Information

In 2011-2012, Film Reel 11 (Box 73) was digitized and remastered by Film Technology, Inc. of Los Angeles, California, through a grant from the National Film Preservation Foundation. Remastered copies created through this grant include a Betacam tape (Box 73, Item 4), a DVD (Box 73, Item 4a), 2 16mm magnetic reels (Box 74b, Items 1-2), and 1 35mm magnetic reel (Box 74a, Reel 11a), as well as a digital .mov file that is preserved on Special Collections' digital preservation server.
