The papers consist of correspondence, documents, genealogical material, and images related to the family of David Compton, Sr. (1850-1923) and his wife, Mary Eyre Haller Compton (1851-1934) as well as their sons, David Compton, Jr. (1885-1959) and William Eyre Compton (1890-1981). There is also documentation concerning the lives of Neil Ernest Compton (1912-1999) and his wife Laurene Putman Compton (1916-1991).

Scope and Content Note The collection includes both Compton's personal and professional materials. These include medical log books, calendars, correspondence, clippings, and various memorabilia relating to his past as a student of Bentonville High School, the University of Arkansas, and the University of Arkansas School of Medicine. The collection contains Neil Compton's photographic slides of Searles Prairie (Rogers, Ark.) and its wildflowers. Also included is a spreadsheet created by the donor, Ellen Turner, that includes location information and transcriptions of Compton's handwritten labels on slides.

Content Description The collection consists of 22 CDs containing recordings of Arkansas environmentalist and physician Neil Compton, primarily of Compton narrating his travel through the Ozarks and nearby areas and responding to questions from Kay Schroeder, who created the recordings. Content includes historical narratives; anecdotes; geographic, geologic, and botanical descriptions; and folk songs.
