The collection consists of two copies of a typescript of an autobiographical essay by Mildred E. White, "My Year at Southland Institute" (3 pages). The essay discusses White's experience as a volunteer teaching at Phillips County, Arkansas' Southland Institute, a Friends-run college for African-Americans, from 1918-1919.

Biographical Note
Mildred Esther White (1894-1988) was a teacher and Quaker missionary from the Richsquare Meeting in Henry County, Indiana. She served as a volunteer teaching at Southland Institute from 1918-1919. She later went on to teach at the Friends Schools in Ramallah, Palestine from 1922-1954.
