The papers contain Purdue's correspondence, consisting mainly of an exchange of letters (some photocopied) between Purdue and Herbert Hoover, 1898-1913. The letter from Hoover dated 1898 is incomplete; Richard Howell Purdue states that his mother, Ida Pace Purdue, destroyed the first four pages, containing the date and salutation, following the death of Purdue in 1917.
