Transparencies of Elkins and Vicinity. Slide show of Elkins past and present, especially Elkins High School, and views of other schools, events, and organizations in the vicinity of Elkins.

The transparencies were mainly taken from old photographs and many include a label. Carrigan apparently created a slide show in 1970 with 80 transparencies and later added to their number. Also included in the collection are a few negatives and three prints.

Content Description

The collection contains genealogical research, correspondence, photographs, property records, and other materials related to the Divelbiss and Reel families. The materials follow the ancestry of Maude Divelbiss Reel and her husband, Blanchard Frank Reel. Many materials relate to family members who lived in Washington County, Arkansas, and particularly in Elkins, Arkansas.

Scope and Content Note The collection includes scrapbooks, photographs, meeting minutes, member rosters, newsletters, newspaper clippings, and other materials documenting the activities of the Elkins Extension Homemakers Club of Washington County. 31 items. Photocopies of notes pertaining to George Dunbar and the Spanish Treasure Cave near Gravette (Benton County), 1908-1985. Includes two photographs of Dunbar and an oral history transcript of Gravette, Benton County residents. Collection also includes broadsides advertising an Elkins picnic (circa 1938) and Tontitown Grape Festival (circa 1975).

Scope and Content Note The papers consist of photographs, photograph albums, a scrapbook, correspondence, professional and financial records, genealogical records, and recorded interviews. The material was created or collected by Dr. Charles Eugene Swift of Goshen and Elkins, Arkansas, and by members of his immediate family, especially his son Joseph Maxwell Swift, and by other descendants.
