Egger Family Papers

Scope and Content Note

John J. Egger's certificate as postmaster of Egger, Polk County, Arkansas (1886), and diary kept on a calendar pad by Johnny Egger, 1927. The diary includes notes on the weather and a day-by-day account of Egger's activities: farming, hauling, woodcutting, hunting, and visits.

Content Description

The collection consists of records relating to the Proft family, and particularly to Paul Otto Proft and his wife, Florence Ellenor Beers Proft. Many Proft family members lived in Mena, Arkansas and Polk County; the collection particularly includes materials related to Mena's Trinity Lutheran Church. Materials include scrapbooks, correspondence, photographs, vital records, memoirs, and genealogical research. Much of the genealogical research was compiled by Helena Beers Buechner.

"Journal of Ormie Twiford; transcribed by Bill R. Beaver; term project for Arkansas folklore; fall semester 1958-1959," being a part (January 1-December 31, 1901) of the diary of a highly literate and articulate log cutter in the vicinity of Mena, Arkansas, transcribed and preface added by Beaver from original manuscript in possession of Roger A. McMillan of Mena.

This collection consists of a photograph album containing photographs and inscriptions. Some of the images were taken at the camp in Shady, Arkansas, while others were taken at Blooming Rose, Phelps County, Missouri, where the camp was moved in October 1934. The album was compiled by James Hatfield.
