The collection pertains primarily to three generations of the Hanks family: Green P. and Fanny Hanks, Wilbur G. and Martha Hanks, and Ora Joe Hanks of Johnson, Arkansas. Green P. Hanks (1838, Boonsboro, Arkansas-1929) served in the US army during the Civil War and was honorably discharged in 1865. Wilbur G. Hanks (1870-1931) was justice of the peace in Johnson, Arkansas.
