Biographical Note

Erwin Charles Funk, born January 5, 1877, was an editor and publisher in northwest Arkansas. He began his career as editor of the Manning Monitor (Iowa) in 1894, then became editor of the Springdale Democrat (Arkansas), which he had bought in partnership with his father, in 1896. Later that year they bought the Rogers Democrat, and Erwin Funk edited and published that newspaper 1897-1930. Funk then became managing editor of the Fayetteville Leader (Arkansas) until 1935. He also edited Trench and Camp, the Camp Pike (Little Rock) newspaper in 1918. He was active in the YMCA, the National Editorial Association (he was its president 1928-1929), the Arkansas Press Association, and the Rotary Club.
