Biographical Note

The Center Street Church of Christ was founded in 1886 when a small band broke away from the First Christian Church of Fayetteville. Originally located on Cemetery Street (now known as Government Street), the church moved to its present location (Center and Locust Streets) in 1949. In 1945, the Church began a mission effort at Drake Town (Madison County). In 1953, the Center Street Church sponsored a camp meeting at the Sequoyah Assembly where the legendary negro preacher, R.N. Hogan, conducted services. The Center Street Church of Christ also helped establish the Combs Street Church of Christ in 1951 and the North Street Church of Christ in 1958.
