Biographical Note

The Stuttgart Woman's Club was organized and federated in 1912. A member of the Arkansas Federation of Women's Clubs and of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, the organization began as a literary and music study society. It founded the Stuttgart Public Library in 1922, and made the library a continuing project of the club, giving it financial support, furniture, and contributing to the beautification of the library grounds.

The club studied government and citizenship in the mid-1920s, and "Famous Women" in 1935. During World War II, the club did Red Cross work and held "silver teas" for the public library. It remained an active supporter of the library, and also contributed to the Arkansas Children's Colony, the Arkansas Sheriffs' Girls and Boys Ranches, and Girls State. In 1988 the Stuttgart Woman's Club disbanded, surrendered its charter, and donated its remaining funds to the Stuttgart Public Library.
