Scope and Content Note
Judith Woltjen, a member of the Highlands Chapter of the Ozark Society, was a leader in the construction of the Clark hiking trail. In 2004 she assembled an album including correspondence documenting the chapter’s negotiations with the City of Fayetteville, photographs of the trail and of the dedication, maps, and other materials pertaining to the establishment of the trail. Also included is a sheet of biographical data on the Clarks.
The album contains nineteen color photographs of the Clark Trail, including persons connected with the Highlands Chapter, e.g., Duane Woltjen, president at the time of the dedication, Mr. Clark, Neil Compton, and of Mayor Fred Hanna. Other photographs are views of the trail, with a frozen waterfall, rock outcroppings, and a running stream. In addition to the photographs, other sections of the album are labeled Building Trail, Letters, Dedication, and Maps. There is also a photocopy of a story by Buddy Gough in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, "Urban getaway," Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003.
