Scope and Content Note

The records consist of by-laws and constitution; minutes of the meetings; financial, election, and activity reports; correspondence; membership roster and directories; convention and installation banquet programs; awards and certificates; newspaper and magazine clippings; newsletters; bulletins; the official publication of Kiwanis International The Kiwanis Magazine; photographs; nineteen slides (Kiwanis Kid's Day Football, Aug 16, 1985); two audiotapes (Kiwanis International Convention, June 24-27, 1984); miscellaneous printed, mostly promotional, material; and a monograph The men who wear the K by L.A. "Larry" Hapgood. The records also contain two scrapbooks with newspaper clippings, letters, programs, rosters, resolutions, certificates, weekly newsletters Krier (Feb-Dec 1939, Jan-Sep 1940, Jan-Oct 1941, Jan-Mar 1942, Feb-Dec 1945), photographs, and other papers pertaining to the club's activities.

Biographical Note

Kiwanis is a worldwide service organization of business and professional men dedicated to community service. It was founded in Detroit, Michigan, on January 21, 1915. On November 1, 1916, the first Canadian club was organized in Hamilton, Ontario. In 1962, clubs were formed in Mexico and the Bahamas. Since then, Kiwanis has extended to over seventy-nine countries around the world. The Kiwanis Clubs sponsor similar service organizations for young people: Circle K International for college students and Key Club International for high school students. The Fayetteville Noon Kiwanis Club was organized with thirty-one members on November 11, 1937. The stated objectives were to perform local community service such as assistance to youth and the aging, conservation of natural resources, development of community facilities, and creation of international understanding and goodwill among all citizens.

Acquisition Information

The Fayetteville Noon Kiwanis Club Records were donated to the Special Collections Division by Connell J. Brown, Fayetteville, Arkansas on June 14, 1990.

Additional materials (Box 7, Folder 6 and Box 9) were donated by Don Schaefer of Fayetteville, Arkansas in 2002.

Processing Information

Processed by Vera Ekechukwu, Special Collections Division, University of Arkansas Libraries, Fayetteville, Arkansas, in March 1999. An additional donation of materials from Don Schaefer was incorporated into the collection as Box 7, Folder 6 and as Box 9 by Katrina Windon in October 2021.
