Biographical Note
Delta Kappa Gamma Society was organized May 11, 1929. Twelve women, most of whom were Texans, visualized and organized a society for women teachers and the glorification of their profession. The Iota Chapter was organized in 1944 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Twenty-one members were initiated that evening. Louise Bell was the first president. Iota Chapter Founders were: Zilpha Battey, Louise Bell, Nieta Berry, Lena Cannon, Juanita Caudle, Lillie B. Cochran, Bessie Coventon, Jo Ellen Crouch, Genevieve Dennis, Margaret Discher, Ila Ellis, Stella Hall, Velma Hall, Stella Palmer Hotz, Kara Jordon, Laura MacDonald, Mary McCutchan, Mattie Cal Maxted, Juanita Prater, Elizabeth Richardson, Elizabeth Shipley, Margaret Simpson, and Beulah Whitcomb.
