Scope and Content Note

This collection contains Kwas's research materials for her 2010 book, A Pictorial History of Arkansas's Old State House: Celebrating 175 Years, regarding the construction and history of Arkansas’ Old State House. A focus of the research is on individuals involved with the building, including newspaper clippings, articles, and notes describing their roles, such as overseeing construction and decoration of the building. Dates referred to in the collection and folder description refer to the dates of source documents; however, most research materials within the collection are photocopies or other modern reproductions rather than originals.

Biographical Note

Mary L. Kwas is an Arkansas writer and researcher who previously worked for the Arkansas Archaeological Survey. Her publications include Digging for History at Old Washington and A Pictorial History of Arkansas's Old State House: Celebrating 175 Years. As a member of the Society for American Archaeology, she served on the organization's Public Education Committee and as the Network Coordinator for Arkansas, and she received the Presidential Recognition Award in 2007.
