Biographical Note

The Ozarks Regional Library System was established in 1965 through an agreement between Washington and Crawford counties, both of which operated as separate county systems previously. The libraries in each county included Alma, Cedarville, Elkins, Greenland, Lincoln, Mountainburg, Mulberry, Prairie Grove, Rogers, Springdale, Van Buren, West Fork, and Winslow. By centralizing the libraries’ activities, such as book circulation and cataloging, to the regional headquarters in Fayetteville, the two counties were able to reduce expenditures. This cooperation helped the financial growth of each library and created an immediate expansion of available books.

The Ozarks Regional Library System disbanded on July 1, 1999, splitting into the Washington County Library System, which includes cities in the county except Fayetteville, and the Crawford County Library System.
