Biographical Note

In 1946, Margaret Frick graduated with a BA in Journalism from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville under Walter Lemke. Lemke established the Journalism department at the University of Arkansas. Lemke was also the director of the University News Bureau which covered all university publicity including sporting events. During World War II, Lemke compiled a newsletter from correspondence with his students abroad in order to keep in touch with them, and allow them to keep in touch with each other. He continued this Newsletter until his death in 1968. Margaret Frick, one of the students to receive "Uncle Walt's Newsletter," was involved in organizing his memorial services and honors for Lemke.
