Charles C. Moore Letter

 Collection
Identifier: MC 1724

Scope and Content Note

Charles C. Moore Letter, a government lands surveyor, wrote to his cousin, Hannah Moore of Quakertown Pennsylvania, while he was in camp in the "Wilds of Arkansas" in 1839. Within the letter, Moore describes his experience in camp, the area he was surveying, and his concern for family relations. After surveying the "Little River", Moore took another contract near the Mississippi River, which is where his camp was stationed and consequentially where he wrote this letter. Moore writes about his good fortune since coming to Arkansas, as well as the hardship associated with being a surveyor.
