Scope and Content Note
The collection includes correspondence, photographs, albums and financial documents pertaining to various members of the Dean family. The collection also includes Larrabee family materials; Dora's sister, Bertha Dean, married Ray Larrabee on February 24, 1926. The "Personal Documents" refers to material formerly in a binder labeled as such, which was removed and placed into separate folders corresponding to labeled envelopes. The "Munky Bizness" scrapbook contains newspaper articles of local interest and a few pertaining to Dora Dean.

Biographical Note
Dora Dean was born February 4, 1898, in the Black Oak community in Washington County, Arkansas, the daughter of Wiley Durham and Mary Elizabeth Parker Dean. Dora graduated from Fayetteville City Hospital in 1921 and Barnes Hospital in St. Louis in 1922 as a registered nurse. She was a public health nurse from 1925 to 1933, when she established the organization Child Welfare of Washington County and Northwest Arkansas. She was a social worker from 1936 to 1966. Dean was a recipient of the Golden Deeds Award in 1957, and a Patroness member of the Sigma Omicron Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota. She also worked with the handicapped as a volunteer several years after her retirement and was active with the Girl Scouts. She died at Fayetteville Hospital on September 26, 1989.
