Biographical Note

William Rob (W.R.) Cherry and Myrtle Cherry lived in Paris, (Logan County), Arkansas. W.R. Cherry was born in 1857 and died in 1932. W.R. was a teacher, farmer and was elected circuit clerk from 1888 to 1890. In 1891 he became the first cashier of the Bank of Paris and later was one of the founders of First National Bank. Myrtle Cherry was born in 1868 and died in 1963. W.R. and Myrtle were married in 1889. They had three sons: Louis, Rufus, and Robert. James Louis Cherry was born in 1893 and died in 1974. He graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1913 and served with the 808th Pioneer Infantry during WWI. Rufus L. Cherry graduated from University of Arkansas in 1918 and became head bookkeeper for First National Bank in Paris, AR. Robert M. Cherry graduated from University of Arkansas in 1919 and became a captain in the U.S. Army during WWI. He later worked for General Electric Company.
