Biographical Note

Frank A. Storey, Jr., was born on January 25, 1905, in Millville, Ouachita County, Arkansas, the son of Frank A. and Ida Gammill Storey. He graduated from Malvern High School in 1922, then enrolled at the University of Arkansas, graduating in 1925. He was briefly employed by the Pyramid Life Insurance Company and the Pierce Petroleum Company before embarking on a 38-year career as an employee with various finance-oriented departments in the state government. He began work in the state comptrollers office in 1928, and served as deputy state comptroller in 1940. In 1941 he was appointed supervisor of audits with the State Bond Refunding Board, a position he served in through 1945. In 1945-1952 he served as secretary of the State Board of Fiscal Control. In 1952 he was named state comptroller, and in 1953 he was appointed director of finance with the State Department of Finance and Administration, a position he continued in until 1955. In 1955 he became the secretary of the State Board of Finance, where he remained until his retirement in 1967. He and his wife, Adrienne Brown Storey, had two daughters, Adrienne and Frances.
