The William Kennedy Correspondence consists of a series of letters written to John Farrissey from 1916 to 1918.In his letters, Kennedy comments on his training of African-American soldiers. He also discusses the influenza epidemic that struck Camp Pike.

Biographical Note
In 1916, 1st Sergeant William Kennedy was stationed at Camp Cotton in El Paso, Texas. He was then stationed at the East Armory of Boston, Massachusetts, in 1917. Transferred to Camp Pike in North Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas, in the summer of 1918, he achieved the rank of Lieutenant. While at Camp Pike, he was responsible for training African-American soldiers.

The William Kennedy Correspondence was purchased by Special Collection Department, University of Arkansas Libraries, on May 22, 1996 from Charles Apfelbaum of Watchung, New Jersey.
