The papers contain correspondence, newspaper clippings, typescript material, and photographs pertaining to the life and career of Cecil Shane.
Included is correspondence (letters of condolence), newspaper clippings, University publications (University Songs ..., Annual Junior-Senior Banquet, March 30, 1911, Sophomore Class Reception, November 19, 1909), certificates, and snapshots from Shane's photo album, mainly from when he was a student at the University of Arkansas ca. 1909-1912.

Biographical Note
Cecil Shane was born in 1887 in Paragould, Arkansas. He graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1911 and two years later received his degree in law from Cumberland University, Lebanon, Tennessee. He was admitted to the bar in Arkansas shortly afterwards. Shane practiced law for almost twenty-nine years and became one of the most prominent lawyers in Arkansas at that time. Throughout the years he held many public and civic offices. He served as mayor of Blytheville, Arkansas. He was a president of Blytheville Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce, a member of the state Educational Committee, a chairman of the Defense Stamps and Bonds Committee in North Mississippi County, whose purpose was to promote the sale of government bonds during the WWI, and a vice president of the Bar Association of Arkansas. Shane died untimely in 1942 at the age of fifty-five.

Patricia Shane Fendler of Fayetteville, Arkansas, donated the papers of her father, Cecil Shane, to Special Collections on November 10, 1994.
