Biographical Note
James H. Langston, of Linsey's Prairie, Benton County, Arkansas, was born in 1834. He started keeping his diary while still attending school. Langston describes his school and family activities, temperance meetings, Sunday school, and other daily encounters. He showed an interest in medicine and talks about borrowing and reading books from local doctors. Langston eventually obtained a job as a clerk in a general store. No other details about the later years in his life are revealed in these papers.
