Biographical Note
Mary Coe Peel Marquess was born to Mary B. Peel and David W. Peel, Jr., of Benton County, Arkansas. She graduated from the University of Arkansas, and then earned a Master of Social Work from the University of Missouri before beginning work for the Arkansas Department of Human Services. As a genealogical researcher, she pursued her family's history, was instrumental in establishing the Peel Mansion on the National Historic Register, has been an active member of the Benton County Historical Society, and served as librarian for the Northwest Arkansas Genealogical Society.
Marquess' father, David, was the son of David W. Peel, Sr. (1860-1935) and Frances (Fannie) Arrington Peel (1865-1945). David W. Peel, Sr., was the son of Colonel Samuel West Peel (1831-1924) and Mary Emaline Berry Peel (1835-1902); Samuel West Peel was the original owner of Bentonville's Peel Mansion.

Acquisition Information
The Mary P. Marquess Papers were donated to the University of Arkansas Special Collections Department by Mary P. Marquess of Bentonville, Arkansas on October 3, 1993. Additional materials were donated by Mary Marquess circa 1998-2000.
