Biographical / Historical

Hempstead County is located in southwest Arkansas.

The Negro Rural School Fund, or Jeanes Fund, was a program funded by the Anna T. Jeanes Foundation of New York to support education for Black students in rural communities. Teachers whose positions were funded by this program were known as "Jeanes Teachers" or "Jeanes Supervisors."
