Biographical / Historical

Gail Latimer Cramer is an American agricultural economist, former educator, and author. Cramer obtained his B.S. at Washington State University in 1963, an M. S. at Michigan State University in 1964, and his Ph.D. from Oregon State University in 1968. He started his career as assistant professor at Montana State University in 1967, became associate professor in 1972, and professor in 1976, until he left the job in 1987 to work at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. There, he was professor until 2000 when he left to become professor and head of The Department of Agricultural Economics & Agribusiness at Louisiana State University until 2016 when he retired. In 1990, Cramer was a principal founder of the International Agribusiness Management Association (IAMA) that was incorporated in Arkansas that same year. In 1992, Cramer was selected for the Distinguished Faculty Award for Research and Public Service from the Arkansas Alumni Association. He generated millions of dollars in research grants in collaboration with Dr. Eric Wailes from the U of A, among others, to further rice research. This research has taken him internationally to present seminars in places such as the Philippines, Japan, Indonesia, Mexico, Taiwan, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Egypt, and England.
