Scope and Contents

This collection contains records of chapter activities from its founding in 1932. Includes minutes, financial records, membership lists, reports, correspondence, material pertaining to the creation of a commemorative poster, governing documents, speeches, initiation information, and photographs of members and visiting scholars. The archivist created folder titles for items without one.

Biographical / Historical

The University of Arkansas’ Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha Chapter was chartered in 1932 and is part of the oldest Greek Letter fraternity in America, founded in 1776. The Alpha of Arkansas chapter inducts students in the Arts and Sciences who have shown exceptional academic achievement. The chapter membership roster has included many familiar campus names such as Fullbright, Futrall, Leflar, Waterman, Hotz, Holcombe and Droke. Through the PBK Visiting Scholars Program, Alpha of Arkansas brings distinguished scholars to campus for informal meetings with students and public lectures for the entire community.
