Biographical / Historical

History classes have been taught at the University since its inception in 1872. It was not until 1970 that a Ph.D. program in history was accredited by the North Central Association. James S. Chase served as chair from 1970-1976. Chase served as a faculty member at the U of A from 1968 until his retirement in 1999.
