Content Description

Kodak album containing 60 2.5”-diameter round photographic prints of the type printed from film from Kodak Original and Kodak No. 1 cameras; locations pictured include Hot Springs, Arkansas; Leeper and Lone Star, Missouri; and Brewster, Massachusetts.

Locations pictured in Hot Springs, Arkansas include the Eastman Hotel, the Army-Navy Hospital, Bathhouse Row, Park Hotel, The Arlington Hotel, the Van Vliet house and livery, a brick building labeled “Coopers,” and an advertisement for "Robin Hood Opera." Included is an image of fox hunters gathered in front of the Eastman Hotel. Other locations pictured in Arkansas include the L.H. Thompson Hotel.

Locations pictured in Leeper, Missouri include the Clarkson Sawmill Co. Lumber & Merchandise store; a railyard; Hotel Leeper; the Old Hotel Leeper; a saw mill; a mill pond; a lumber yard; a log slide; a planing mill; Missouri Southern Railway trains and tracks; and the C. M. Wilson home. Also included is a photograph of Cash Wilson and “Mr. Clarkson,” likely in Leeper.

Locations pictured in Lone Star, Missouri include the Lone Star Store and the Lone Star Mill and mill yard. Also included is a photograph of a bookkeeper and judge, likely in Lone Star.

Other photographs likely in Arkansas or Missouri include an image of people riding burros across a bridge; a lunch wagon; a Black boy gathering bottles; and a Black girl in the yard of a home.

Locations pictured in Brewster, Massachusetts include the Crosby monument in a cemetery and the Thorndike Cottage and Farm. Included is a Sept. 1896 photograph of Thorndike, Howard, Wise, and Knapp family members in front of the Thorndike Cottage, and a photograph of Ned Wise golfing, likely in Brewster or elsewhere on Cape Cod.

The collection consists of a single photograph album. Photographs within the album appear to be arranged geographically, which may also reflect chronological order, beginning with images of Hot Springs and Arkansas; followed by images of Leeper and Lone Star, Missouri; and concluding with images of Brewster, Massachusetts.

The Kodak Photograph Album of Arkansas, Missouri, and Massachusetts was purchased by Special Collections from Crossroad Books of Eau Claire, Wisconsin on May 17, 2023.
