Scope and Content Note

The Sandy Soohoo-Refaei Papers contain documents, articles, correspondence, photographs, and other materials, both physical and born-digital, related to her career at Linfield College, Point Loma Nazarene University, and NAFSA. Of particular note are the materials related to the study abroad programs at both institutions. These study abroad programs were in Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the United Kingdom, and South Korea, as well as other countries. Noteworthy NAFSA materials are primarily related to regional and national conferences and training sessions, as will as committees that Soohoo-Refaei sat on.

Biographical Note

A life-long higher education professional, Sandy Soohoo-Refaei had a long career working in study abroad and international higher education on the American west coast. Soohoo-Refaei spent the bulk of her career, from 1984-2015, working with the International Programs program at Linfield College (now Linfield University) in McMinnville, Oregon. In 2015 Soohoo-Refaei took a position as the Director of Study Abroad at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, California. Soohoo-Refaei also devoted a considerable amount of time working with and volunteering for NAFSA: Association of International Edcuators, service as the Vice President of Professional Development and Engagement, Vice President Member Relations, Past Chair of KC ISSS, and being a member of several other committees in addition to being a frequent presenter and trainer.

Arrangement of the Papers

Materials in the Sandy Soohoo-Refaei Papers are physically arranged in original order. Periodicals that were found in the collection have been intellectually arranged at the beginning of the collection in chronological order alphabetically by title. Folder titles in quotes are the original titles from folders in the collection; folder titles that are not in quotes were assigned to loose documents and materials by processing archivist when processing the papers.

Acquisition Information

The Sandy Soohoo-Refaei Papers were donated to the Special Collections Division by Soohoo-Refaei on May 16, 2014. Additional materials were donated to the Special Collections Division by Soohoo-Refaei in 2018 and 2020.

Separated Materials

One Mac-formatted floppy disk was found to be unrecoverable by the vendor that was converting the Mac-formatted disks and was removed in the final stages of processing the collection.
