15 framed black-and-white photographic portraits of Black women from Northwest Arkansas, photographed by Jerry Taliaferro as part of his "Women of a New Tribe: A Photographic Celebration of the Black American Woman" series.
In addition to the individual subjects identified within the container list, five individuals were identified in exhibit documentation as being photograph subjects, but insufficient information was available at the time of processing to identify which portrait depicted each woman: Melody M., Deondra G., Tiffany S., Edith H., and Genette H.

Biographical / Historical
Jerry Taliaferro is an American photographer. He was born in Brownsville, Tennessee, and is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. His projects include the Women of a New Tribe series, which features portraits of Black women, as well as the Sons: Seeing the Modern African American Male series.

This set of Jerry Taliaferro Women of a New Tribe Photographs was commissioned by the University of Arkansas Libraries from photographer Jerry Taliaferro as part of a Women's Giving Circle-funded exhibit and program for Women's History Month 2013. These photographs were transferred to Special Collections following the closure of the exhibit in 2013.
