Content Description
The collection consists of the correspondence of William Albert Brewster, Jr., primarily letters written to his mother (Annie Brewster) and sister (Dorothy Lee Brewster) of Ruston, Louisiana, while Brewster was stationed at Camp Neil Martin (University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Arkansas) and at Fort Chaffee (Fort Smith, Arkansas) during World War II. Also included is a letter from one of Brewster's hallmates at the University of Arkansas, William Howard, to Brewster's sister Dorothy.
Topics of correspondence include Brewster's daily life, as well as his experiences as part of the Army Specialized Training Unit #3875.

Biographical / Historical
William Albert "Dub" Brewster, Jr. (1927-2013) was a World War II veteran, a grocery store owner, and a postal service worker.
Brewster was born March 4, 1927, to William and Annie Brewster. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, including undergoing training in the Army Specialized Training Unit #3875 at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. He owned and operated Cedarton Grocery from the 1950s until 1971, and then worked in the U.S. postal service. He passed away December 25, 2013, in Ruston, Louisiana.
