The collection contains materials related to Clara L. Simerville’s career as Foreign Student Counselor at Oregon State University, including materials related to advising international students and to her travels to countries including Afghanistan, China, Cuba, Egypt, Haiti, Iran, Israel, Liberia, Pakistan, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Sudan, and Venezuela. Biographical / Historical

Clara L. Simerville (1908-1999) was an educator and international student advisor.

Simerville was born June 20, 1908. She earned degrees from Wilamette University, the University of Oregon, and Oregon State University before serving as an Oregon public school teacher and then working for 15 years as Foreign Student Counselor at Oregon State University. She wrote a book, Home Visits Abroad, that detailed her travels as a student advisor. After retiring from OSU, she worked at Iowa State University, where she co-founded the International Resource Center. Simerville passed away November 19, 1999.
