Biographical / Historical
Trout Fishing in America is a Grammy-nominated American musical duo comprised of Ezra Idlet and Keith Grimwood; the band was initially based in Texas and is currently based in Northwest Arkansas.
Idlet and Grimwood were both members of the Houston, Texas-based St. Elmo’s Fire, later known as Wheatfield, before forming Trout Fishing in America in 1979. Trout Fishing in America, which was named for Richard Brautigan’s novel of the same name, briefly changed its name to Pavlov’s Band in the 1980s. The group has been a duo for most of its history, but has had up to four members at one time, including Rom Rosenblum and Orville Strickland in the 1980s. The band’s music includes both folk rock and children’s music, and they have performed at venues from the Kerrville Folk Festival to the International Children’s Music Festival. As of 2022, the band has released 25 albums on its Trout Records label, including Big Trouble, inFINity, and It’s a Puzzle.
