Content Description

The collection contains seven scrapbooks of materials relating to Jake Drake's baseball career, including with the Springfield (Mo.) Cardinals, the Fayetteville (Ark.) Merchants, and the Fayetteville (Ark.) Chicks. Six scrapbooks primarily contain clippings, but also include some fliers, posters, and a certificate. One scrapbook primarily contains photographs of baseball as well as of Drake's friends and family.

Biographical / Historical

Jake Drake (1914-1994) was a professional baseball player born in Fayetteville, Arkansas. During his career, he played for teams including the Springfield (Mo.) Cardinals, the Fayetteville (Ark.) Merchants, the Fayetteville (Ark.) Chicks, the Mobile (Ala.) Shippers, and the Columbus (Oh.) Red Birds. He was married to Mary Leona Mitchell.
