Basore Family Papers

 Collection
Identifier: MC 2241

Content Description

The collection contains materials, predominantly correspondence, related to the Basore family of Arkansas, Illinois, and Missouri. Much of the correspondence is by or between siblings George W. Basore, Francis Marion (F.M.) Basore, and Abraham Denver (A.D.) Basore, and many letters relate to the Kingston Roller Mill of Kingston, Arkansas, which several family members were involved with. As described by the donor, Wayne Clark, in his introduction to the collection, "The letters are mostly during the time frame of the last 20 years of the 19th century when they were engaged in building and operating flour mills. These weren't the best of economic times in this country as you will see by reading the letters but you will see how this family is very close knit and they manage to get through these tough times." The collection also includes illustrated postcards, including of scenes in Arkansas and in Colorado Springs, Colorado, as well as calling cards, advertisements, pamphlets, notes, and ephemera.
