Content Description

The collection consists of materials, primarily photographs, collected or created by amateur archaeologist Charles McNair. Photographs include images of bluff shelters, an archeological dig, and archeological exhibits; some are identified as artifacts found in Washington County, Arkansas, while one is identified as an item from the Earl Riddick Collection in Clinton, Arkansas. Other images relate to McNair's business, and include images of trucks labeled "C.W. McNair, Fayetteville, Arkansas" at a farm. The collection also includes a brochure for the Missouri Archaeological Society and a program for a University of Arkansas Museum Archeological Open House event.

Charles Watkins McNair (1923-1996) was a Washington County, Arkansas businessman and amateur archaeologist who served as treasurer of the Northwest Arkansas Archaeological Society during the 1960s.

Arrangement

Materials are arranged by format. Prints are arranged into groupings assigned by creator. Some of the photographic negatives were received as rolls, and have been cut down to strips during processing for preservation and access reasons; they have been rehoused into negative sleeves in their original roll order.
