Scope and Contents
The collection consists of materials related to the life and career of W. E. Darby, an Arkansas businessman who served as president and chairman of the board of the National Old Line Insurance Company of Little Rock, Arkansas. Many of the collection materials relate to Darby's posthumous induction into the Arkansas Business Hall of Fame in 2001; a scrapbook contains materials relating to celebrations of Darby's reaching the milestone of $100,000,000 in insurance sales with his company in 1953. Other collection materials include company magazines, a portrait of Darby, Darby's University of Arkansas diploma, and materials related to the history of the National Old Line Insurance Company.

William Edson Darby (1904-1979) was an Arkansas businessman who served as president and chairman of the board of the National Old Line Insurance Company. In 2001, he was posthumously inducted into the Arkansas Business Hall of Fame.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
The W. E. Darby Papers were donated to Special Collections by Darby's sister, Phoebe Norman of Little Rock, Arkansas. The bulk of the materials were donated by Norman in 2009; the painting of Darby (Item 1) was donated by the estate of Phoebe Norman, through Phoebe Norman's daughter and executor Phoebe Ellen Bullard, on November 7, 2014.
