Scope and Contents

The collection consists of materials related to three brothers, Hugh, Arthur, and James Robertson, and particularly to their service in the U. S. Army Air Service during World War I. Collection materials include photographs, correspondence, and military records. Photographs include images of the Robertson family, portraits of the Robertson brothers, aircraft, the University of Arkansas Cadet Corps and Cadet Corps Band, and Arthur Robertson with a group of Army Reserve members in Little Rock.

Biographical / Historical

Arthur, Hugh, and James Robertson were three brothers born in Marianna, Arkansas, to Edward Dale and Ethel Beard Robertson. All three served in the U. S. Army Air Service during World War I. Arthur Robertson attended the University of Arkansas, and after the war served in the Army Reserve and worked as a commercial aviator. Hugh Robertson was a graduate of Arkansas College and a Presbyterian minister. James Robertson was a graduate of the University of Arkansas and of Cumberland Law School, and practiced law in Wynne, Arkansas.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The Robertson Brothers Papers were donated to Special Collections by the Roberton brothers' sister, Catherine Barnett of Batesville, Arkansas, in October 1987.

Processed by Katrina Windon; completed in November 2021. Collection photographs had been arranged and described around the time of the collection's acquisition, and those inventories have been included in the collection as Folder 8.
