Biographical / Historical

The Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission (ANHC) was established in 1973 as the Arkansas Environmental Preservation Commission, with the mission of preserving Arkansas' natural diversity. Its name changed in 1975, when the organization moved under the umbrella of the Department of Arkansas Heritage. The Commission manages the Arkansas System of Natural Areas, maintains the Arkansas Natural Heritage Inventory, and engages in other activities to collect and share information related to the state's natural resources and conservation issues.
